Introduction to Dryer Cylinder
The dryer cylinder is an essential core component of the complete paper machine equipment.
In the whole papermaking process, the paper machine dryer belongs to a special pressure vessel, which is specially designed for moisture removal and paper drying.
The quantity of paper dryer equipment accounts for approximately 2/3 of all pressure vessels used in the global paper manufacturing industry.

The main function of the paper machine dryer is to evaporate excess moisture from wet paper webs and improve surface flatness, smoothness and finished appearance of final paper products.
The main components of the dryer cylinder include: cylinder shell, turbulence rod, siphon pipe, end cover, access hole cover, bearing, shaft head, steam joint and other auxiliary parts.

Industrial-grade cast iron materials HT250 and HT300 are commonly adopted for manufacturing standard paper dryer cylinder.
In strict accordance with production quality standards, every finished dryer cylinder must be free from penetrating cracks, air holes and excessive sand holes to guarantee stable long-term operation.
To enhance the surface finish and printing performance of final paper, the outer surface of the paper dryer requires high-precision polishing treatment, while the inner surface is finely processed for smoothness. Uniform wall thickness of the whole dryer cylinder ensures mechanical operation safety, overall dynamic balance and consistent heat conduction efficiency for the paper machine dryer.

Drying Working Principle of Paper Machine Dryer
Saturated steam delivered through the steam joint condenses inside the paper machine dryer, releasing continuous heat energy to raise the overall temperature of the dryer cylinder. The high-temperature surface of the paper dryer directly heats and dries wet paper running smoothly on its outer surface, and heat energy is efficiently transferred through direct contact between the paper web and dryer surface.
After heat release and condensation, large volumes of condensed water accumulate inside the paper machine dryer cylinder. During high-speed operation, centrifugal force makes condensed water adhere tightly to the inner wall of the dryer cylinder and form a stable water ring, which seriously reduces heat conduction efficiency and hinders heat transfer to the outer working surface of the paper dryer.
For this reason, an industrial siphon device is equipped to drain condensed water in a timely manner. Even under low-speed operating conditions where no water ring is formed, splashing and accumulated condensed water inside the paper machine dryer still needs regular drainage to maintain optimal drying performance.
